Debbie Boon is a native Floridian and a St. Augustine, FL resident. She studied Spanish and Art History at the University of North Florida and apprenticed with the internationally recognized landscape artist Charles Dickinson. After completing her degree, she began to study painting full time. She works primarily in the studio in St. Augustine, FL but still enjoys occasional plein air painting and traveling to new areas for inspiration.
Debbie has spent most of her life as an artist and performer. She is a singer songwriter. She also performed for eight years with a dance ensemble that performed all over the southeast as well in Las Vegas, Catalina Island, and on the stage of the Grand Old Opry. As a member of the dance ensemble, Debbie opened for a number of well-known performers such as Johnny and June Carter Cash, Conway Twitty, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and John Hartford.
Boon began her career as a professional artist around 1999. She has worked with a variety of mediums, including pen & ink, watercolor, and mixed media, but her greatest joy is for oils. The subjects of her work vary from architectural street scenes to works of the imagination, and her paintings are notable in their rich and colorful expression. Most recently Debbie has been working on a series of paintings of dancers as well as metaphoric and imaginary work for upcoming exhibitions. Her two-artist exhibition with artist Charles Dickinson combines music and visual art by featuring paintings created by each artist that were inspired by Debbie's original musical compositions. This exhibit was chosen by the St. Augustine Record's Compass magazine as one of the best art events of 2007.
Debbie exhibits in the Dow Museum of Historic Houses in St. Augustine, FL. She is a member of Landscape Artists International and Plein Air Artists of St. Augustine. Her work has appeared in a number of exhibitions, including the Apalachicola Museum of Art, the Firehouse Gallery in Burlington, Vermont, The St. Augustine Art Association, and The Spear Gallery at the Dow Museum in St. Augustine, FL.
Debbie's desire is to paint as often as possible and to work to create canvases that reflect her love of painting. As a breast cancer survivor, Debbie also hopes to create exhibitions that bring awareness and contributions to breast cancer foundations.
